To gather Latvian and international winter swimmers, continuing an annual tradition.
To promote winter swimming, as a method of human body toughening; improve the development of clubs and groups in Latvia.
To promote toughening and winter swimming for residents of Latvia, as well as the activities of already existing clubs of winter swimming.
To promote the cooperation between winter swimming clubs and clubs of all types of other sports, society and local government, as well as public and commercial organizations.
Determine the best individual swimmers and swimmers of winter swimming clubs in the individual races and teams after 2nd stage, the 1st stage of the XVI Latvian Open Winter Swimming Championship take place in Jelgava city on November 1st and 2nd, 2020.
Championship will be held on January 25, 2020 at 12.00 – Liepaja, Beberlini (2/6 Lībiešu Street).
The Winter Swimming Championship is organized by Liepaja cycling and winter swimming club “VeloRonis” with the support of the city of Liepaja.
(LCH DIST) – distance of the both stage XVI Latvian Open Winter Swimming Championship (Liepāja, Jelgava).
Depending on weather conditions and the number of registered participants, the organizers have the right to make changes to the program, notifying participants of the championship.
This is an international championship, attended by swimmers from any country.
The championship is open for 200 participants; reaching the maximum number, the registration may be stopped.
Only registered participants can participate in the competition.
Participants under the age of 18 years, require the presence of a parent, guardian or authorized person, who must be present during both registration and competition.
Participants are divided in the following age groups, according to their year of birth and age for December 31, 2019:

Preliminary on-site registration and payment of the participation fee on January 24, from 17.00 to 20.00 at Līva Hotel, 11 Liela Street, Liepaja.

The participation fee depends on the date of payment, not the date of application. If the fee has not been paid until the day of competition, the participant must pay the full price!
Participation fee is not refunded to participants who do not compete, or if the event is cancelled due to force majeure.
Winners are determined in each discipline and age group, individually for men and women.
In 25m breaststroke and 50m freestyle disciplines the absolute winners are determined, individually for men and women.
1st to 3rd place winners in each distance and age group will receive diplomas, medals and awards.
The fastest participant in the overall standings 25m breaststroke and 50m freestyle distances (women and men individually) will receive a money prize of 50 EUR.
Distances which are in both Latvian XVI Winter Swimming Championship stages (25m breaststroke “”Head-Up”, 25m Ice-butterfly, 50m freestyle, 100m breaststroke “Head-Up”, 450m freestyle with time control) will have an overall rating and will be rewarded at the Latvian winter swimming season conclusion (time and place will be announced) or the awards will be delivered separately to the winner by arrangement.
For the safety of the participants, a life-guard and medic are provided at the competition site; for the long distances – an emergency medical aid crew.
The use of stimulant drugs, alcohol, warming lubricants and ointment for the body before swimming is forbidden.
Participants must read and comply with the safety regulations of the competition. A participant undertakes to not raise claims against the organizers of the event for possible injuries, caused by the fault of the participant, underestimation of circumstances or overload.
If a participant sees someone ignore the rules, he/she must warn the participant, the audience member ignoring the rules, and/or notify the organizers.
If the competition is held in an ice pool, the participant must be careful while swimming, getting in and out of the pool, in order not to hurt him/herself.
Swimwear – regular bathing suite, swimming trunks, goggles, swimming cap.
Outfit of the swimmer should not be with a special technology of insulation (Thermo). No gloves and/or shoes allowed during the swim.
Start – without jumping in the water, pushing off with feet from the stairs or the support wall while holding the handrail with one hands; shoulders must be under water.
Finish – touching the end wall (board) of the pool with a hand.
Waterproof swimming cap.
Tumble Turn is prohibited!
The team should have at least 1 representative of each gender from the same club.
For long distances, such as 100m (all age groups), 200m and 450m (only B to J age groups, swimmers aged 20 to 70 years) freestyle with a time control – waterproof swimming cap, goggles.
The swimming will take place in a pool water area, no buoy is required.
Tumble Turn is prohibited!
Participant is allowed to participate in no more than two long distances.
Only participants who have previously participated in winter swimming competition for long distances, and who’s degree of toughening can be assured by club leaders with a signed affidavit sent to Organizing Committee, can participate in the 200m and 450m swim. Before the start, an on-site medic will assess the state of health of each participant.
Swimmers of the 450m endurance race will be admitted to the start only if accompanied by the Assistant – a trustee person who knows and is responsible for the swimmer, as well as guarantees his/her ability to swim the distance.
The Assistant must:
All participants in the endurance race must undergo a medical examination on the day of the swim according to the Competition Program.
Medical examination includes blood pressure, alcohol and drug tests.
The results of the medical examination are not discussed and having any negative indicators are grounds for refusing the participation of a swimmer.
The organizers reserve the right to reduce the distance or cancel the endurance race if weather conditions become unpredictable and increase the risk of danger for swimmers. The decision is final and may not be discussed.
Judges have the right to stop the participant’s swim in case there is a suspicion that the participant is behaving inadequately and the continuation of the swim threatens his life and health.
Only participants who have previously participated in winter swimming competition for long distances, and who’s degree of toughening can be assured by club leaders with a signed affidavit sent to Organizing Committee and have received a medical permit, can participate in the 450m swim. The medical permit must be submitted to the employee of the event’s info center before the start of the heat.
Protests should be submitted in writing to the organizers within 15 minutes after the race result, upon paying the deposit of EUR 10. If the protest is satisfied, the deposit will be returned to the applicant.
Participant’s place in the group, name, surname, age group, result, country, city and club/association will be published on the veloronis.lv website, under the “Championship Results” section.
When applying for competition, the participants shall certify that they agree to the use of photographs and video materials taken during the competition for the needs of the organizer.
The board of judges together with the organizer has the right to decide on issues that are not mentioned in this Regulation, as well as make any changes to this Regulation, without prior notice to the participants.
The organizers are not responsible for the ignorance and lack of knowledge on the Regulation of the participants.
The participant agrees to this Regulation and undertakes to comply with it.
The latest changes to this Regulation were made on 22.10.2019.

When applying for competition, the participant agrees to the processing of his or her personal data for the purposes of the organizing of the competition. It is necessary to indicate the name, surname, gender, birth data and the distance chosen, in order to ensure objective results of the competition. Other data can be submitted by choice.
Publicly displayed results show the distance, name, surname, club and/or city and place won. If the participant does not want to be shown on public lists, he/she must inform the organizers of the championship by email at info@veloronis.lv. In that case, the participant will be shown as “Anonymous” on the published lists. Anonymous participant cannot claim and must refuse all prizes awarded to the participants.
A participant has the right to request his/her personal data to be corrected or deleted at any time.
When applying for the competition, participants agree to the use of photographs and video materials taken during the competition for the needs of the organizer, including (but not only) publications on the veloronis.lv, media and social websites.
When applying for the competition, a participant must indicate his/her e-mail address, that will be included in the participant database, meant for informing participants on news and changes in the information about the competition, as well as other things. A participant can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time, by sending an e-mail to info@veloronis.lv.
